It’s been a few weeks since we’ve taken our “babymoon” and I want to share with yall how the trip to The Bahamas went and just how amazing Sandals Royal Bahamian is! We had the best time and we were so thankful to get away just the two of us adults before baby #3 arrives in a few weeks!
With the first two pregnancies, we weren’t able to take a “babymoon” but did smaller trips before their arrivals. We were both so thankful that time allowed us to take a longer trip to somewhere tropical this time. I think you need it the third time around more than anything!
If you aren’t familiar, couples are taking trips called a “babymoon” similar to a honeymoon but before the baby arrives. You can plan your babymoon anywhere, but it’s recommended that pregnant women or women trying to conceive stay clear of destinations with Zika risk. The Bahamas is currently Zika-Free according to the CDC and also approved by my OBGYN, so that’s where we chose to go!
There are 3 Non-US Caribbean destinations that currently are Zika-Free according to the CDC:
After doing a little research, The Bahamas was the best fit for us! We chose to visit Sandals Royal Bahamian for a 4-night stay and it was nothing short of amazing! I’m so thankful we were able to go and spend some one-on-one time together just my husband and I.
Traveling to The Bahamas
Though The Bahamas was the closest of the three Zika-free destinations to us, it still took some time getting there! We flew Southwest Airlines since it was the least expensive, but had to change planes a few times. We have our passports, but didn’t have any issues getting through customs. The process was extremely seamless! If you plan to travel out of the country for a babymooon (or anything), plan to have passports at least 6 weeks before departure. You may want to look into booking with a travel agent if you are unfamiliar with flying out of the country. Once you’ve arrived in The Bahamas, you will find the resort you are staying with (there are several so make sure you know) and head to the meeting area. Sandals was ready for our arrival and took us directly to the resort upon arrival at the airport.
The Bahamas islands are so gorgeous! We have told everyone that it’s definitely somewhere that’s underrated as many people don’t travel there, but the crystal blue waters and white sands are SO GORGEOUS!
The resort was nothing short of amazing! The views were gorgeous! The staff was incredible. We had the best time! Sandals is always one of our first choices when traveling because of the well-known hospitality and all-inclusive luxury. With many resorts spread over different countries, Sandals is an adult-only couples resort while Beaches, the sister resort to Sandals, offers a similar experience with family-friendly all-inclusive stay!
We enjoyed the stay at Sandals Royal Bahamian which is located in Nassau, Bahamas. It’s just minutes away from the airport, so there were no issues getting from the airport to the resort. The Bahamas is very safe, catering to tourism, and we really enjoyed getting to know the local area! One of the best perks of Sandals is that it’s all-inclusive which means you don’t need to carry money around with you! All of your meals, drinks and stay is included in the price you pay before your stay. It’s so nice to go to dinners and not have to deal with the ticket, bringing your wallet with you and paying for each itemized thing you order. All-inclusive is definitely the way to go! Brett enjoyed all of the drinks, while I had them make me non-alcoholic drinks and enjoyed trying those!
What We Did / Restaurants
There are over 10 restaurants and 8 bars on the property. There is also a Private Island just a boat ride away. I highly recommend the places we went. We didn’t have a bad experience any where we went!
Day 1: We arrived at Sandals Royal Bahamian in time to settle in to our suite. The room they assigned to us was a two-room ocean-view and pool-view suite with a balcony. While the rooms and the resort is a little older and renovated, the room was clean and really spacious. The view was amazing! We unpacked in time to head to dinner at Baccarat which is the French restaurant. The French onion soup and beef filet was AMAZING. Brett enjoyed the wine and I enjoyed extra creme brulee for dessert! 😉 We headed outside for the nightly entertainment. Each night they have a show or a fun event to do!
Day 2: We reserved our seats at the pool the day before so we got a good shaded area (close to the sim up bar for my husband haha). We went to breakfast at Spices which is the breakfast buffet. Breakfast is usually my favorite meal at resorts, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the taste of the coffee and the breakfast left more to be desired, which was a bit disappointing, but the service was great. We headed to the pool and Brett made friends to have some drinks with! I lounged by the pool, swam, had about every special smoothie they wanted to make me and took a few naps! 😉
For lunch, we ordered Bella Napoli Pizza to have it poolside. This was probably my favorite lunch! The pizza is handmade and SO SO good! You need to add it to your list if you visit! Every pizza I tried was beyond!
We headed to the room for an afternoon nap while it rained! Is there anything better than an afternoon nap in the rain? We got ready for dinner since we had reservations at Kimonos, the Oriental Hibachi restaurant. We were probably the most excited for this one and it was so good! We checked out the nightly show, I had a cappuccino from the coffee bar in the theatre and then we headed to bed!
Day 3: We started our day with room service breakfast! It was SO good! We ordered the night before so it would be delivered at the time we wanted. We had booked spa appointments for massages, so we ate on the balcony and then headed to the spa. Redlane Spa was nice, but didn’t have a ton of amenities. You probably know I’m a spa junkie, so I expected it to be a little bigger. The prenatal massage wasn’t the best I’ve had, but Brett said his was really good! They don’t have the belly pillows, so if you’re a pregnant mama, expect to lay on your side for the majority of the time.
We went straight to the pool and enjoyed lounging. I had an iced blended coffee that was SO good. We ordered more pizza from Bella Napoli poolside and had an afternoon nap! For dinner, we had reservations at Gordon’s on the Pier for a sunset dinner. The seafood was good, but the view was AMAZING! I highly recommend doing this for one of your nights during the stay.
Day 4: We took the boat over to the Sandals private island for our last day! I wish we would have done this more than once, because once we arrived they had a restaurant for us to eat lunch, a swim-up bar and pool and two different private beaches. I loved it there! They have floats in the ocean water, swings, hammocks and just about anything you need to relax! It’s so quiet and peaceful there! We had lunch at Schooners which is American food like burgers and fries! It was really good!
What To Know
We had Butler Service which is something we’ve never had at an all-inclusive resort. The staff was absolutely amazing and so kind! We had 3 assigned butlers that assisted us throughout the duration of our trip. We felt a little silly having someone do all of the work for us such as booking excursions, restaurant reservations, carrying our things, reserving the perfect pool area for us and escorting us to dinners. It was nice for them to keep us on schedule and they gave us a phone to call them if we needed anything at all. If you’re looking to splurge for a special occasion or absolutely hate doing any of these things; I highly recommend their butler service. We were definitely treated like royalty.
We didn’t book any excursions this trip since I am pregnant and not able to do many of the things, but my husband is a certified scuba diver and would have loved to do that! We also contemplated taking Wave Runners for an hour to explore the waters, but I was a little nervous doing that 30 weeks pregnant. We would definitely do that if we went back!
There are tons of activities to do once you’re on the resort if you want something to do other than lounge! Check out this list of activities.
You can shop any of my outfits that I wore here! Let me know if yall have any questions!
The stay was just what we needed before welcoming Little Man in early November. We met some great people, enjoyed the gorgeous scenes and just really enjoyed spending time together with some uninterrupted adult time!
Have yall been to a Sandals resort? Have you been to The Bahamas? I would love to hear your thoughts and possibly the next Sandals we should visit? I really want to take our kiddos to Beaches Turks and Caicos next! Has anyone been there? We were supposed to go last year, but the hurricane hit it and we had to cancel. Then this year, we weren’t able to go because of the baby! Let me know in the comments below!
We’re now on the countdown to Little Man! I’m so thankful Brett and I were able to have some time together before his arrival and before he starts his busy season of cotton ginning! Did you take a babymoon with your significant other before the baby’s arrival? Do you think it’s important to spend special time together before a big life change?
Let me know any questions you may have or if I left something out!
